Still Smiling... We were both very happy at this moment to have been moved into a birthing room after spending five hours sharing a recovery room with another person. After being induced at 7:00 pm, I had steady contractions about 2 minutes apart with no pain until around 2:00 am. Then the pain kicked in, and our wonderful nurse helped relieve it with a non-narcotic medication. This helped take the edge off and allowed me to relax and dilate from 2cm to 4cm and break my water. Then the pain really started and I had an epidural, which kicked in around 5:00 am. By 6:00 I was already 9 1/2 cm dilated and I started pushing at 6:30. Kaden Joseph Strachan arrived at 7:40 am. He had a rough entrance into the world. His cord was wrapped twice around his neck which caused his heart rate to drop, so Dr. Clayton used a vacuum to assist with delivery.
